High Borrans - Week Adventure - Summer 2019

HIGH BORRANS - Week Adventure –Summer 2019

Dear Year 4 Parent,

During their time at King Edward we hope that every child will try and take the opportunity to come with us on an exciting adventure at High Borrans in the Lake District. These have always been a great success, with children enjoying themselves and being thrilled at achieving new things. Most are eager to go again if given the chance. Aside from enjoying the beauties of the Lake District itself, activities can include some canoeing, orienteering, the Ropes course, Ghyll scrambling, walks in the hills etc. Some of these take place on site and some in the countryside elsewhere. We will help develop the children’s sense of independence and confidence and social skills too. Activities are, of course, tailored to the children’s ages and abilities.

While in Y4 we take the children from Monday to Friday in late Spring or early Summer, the Y6 we take, go during the Autumn term, over a weekend.

Your child has an opportunity to attend this year with the Y4 trip planned for just after the Summer Half term holiday – Monday 3rd June 2019 - Friday 8th June 2019.

We will be inviting parents to sign up during the next half term but If you would like to know more about the trip and the Centre we stay in beforehand, or ask questions, then I will be holding an open meeting for Parents on Thursday 28th February at 5.15pm.

Thank you

Mr Henderson

Books! Books! Books!

Books! Books! Books!

Sponsored Read - Well done to everyone who participated in our sponsored read last week. The winners from each class will receive a book prize in assembly and their photos will be on display in the library. Thank you for the sponsor money raised too. So far, our total is over £3500.00 plus an extra 60% of free books. Amazing! This will be spent on Usborne books to update our libraries and replenish our home readers. If you haven’t sent in your sponsor money yet, please send it in after the holidays and we can add it to our total. Thank you!

Library - With the help of our wonderful FOKE, we are in the process of electronically coding all of the books in school. This is a very time consuming job but it will mean that children will be able to scan books out with a bar code reader, as in a real library. We will then be able to keep track of how often children change books, whether they have already read specific books and be able to keep track on where books are. It would be greatly appreciated if you could have a search at home over the holidays and send in any books you may have from school. Thank you so much in advance.

Book Week - We are celebrating reading again this year by having a Book Week during the week beginning 4th March. There will be lots of exciting events taking place all week. As usual, the book fair will be open from Monday to Thursday in the Community Room.

Reading for pleasure is something we promote in school. We would like you to share your reading experiences with us - so we are having a fun competition. Your challenge is to send in a photo of your child reading in the most unusual (but safe) place they can find. We are hoping to make a display of this in our new improved library. Children will be given a £1 book voucher after the holidays to celebrate World Book Day which can be spent at the book fair or at a book shop.

On Monday and Tuesday of Book Week, we will be visited by one of our parents, Mr Hetherington, who has written a book with his daughter, Isabella where there will be an option to buy a signed copy of his book. Some of our teachers have already read this book with their classes and the feedback has been excellent.

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, Years 2, 4 and 5 will visit North Shields Library.

On Thursday, to celebrate World Book Day, children are invited to come to school dressed up as their favourite character from a book. We are excited to see what the children (and staff!) come up with this year!

As you’d expect, there will also be book related activities happening all week during lessons and we are looking forward to continuing to pursue a shared lifelong love of reading.

Thank you for your continued support and please keep reading.

Many thanks,

Mrs Brown

Assistant Headteacher and Literacy Leader

School Procedures for End of Day Arrangements and safe Collection of Children

posted 13 Feb 2019, 08:04 by Linn Hoggins

Dear parent / carer

I am writing to remind parents of the school procedures for end of day arrangements and safe collection of children.

All parents should have completed the end of day arrangements form, specifying who can collect their child on any given day.  If there are going to be any changes to these arrangements, please notify your child’s teacher with as much advance notice as possible.  At the very latest, you should notify your child’s teacher at morning drop off with arrangements for that day.

I appreciate that occasions may arise which mean you need to make changes to your child’s collection arrangements during the school day.  In these emergency circumstances, please call the school office who will make every attempt to pass along your message.

Our school office is very busy, especially towards the end of the school day, and staff are therefore unable to pass along changes to collection arrangements except in an emergency.  In these circumstances, we kindly ask parents to adhere to their existing collection arrangements and arrange any further activities after their children have been collected from school.

Yours faithfully

Miss Parnaby
