Current Year 5 - Year 6 in September High Borrans - Weekend Adventure - Friday 9th - Monday 12th November 2018

posted by Linn Hoggins   [ updated ]

Dear Parent

During their time at King Edward we hope that every child will take the opportunity to come with us on an exciting adventure at High Borrans in the Lake District. These have always been a great success, with children enjoying themselves and being thrilled at achieving new things. Most are eager to go again if given the chance. Aside from enjoying the beauties of the Lake District itself, activities can include canoeing, orienteering, the Ropes course, Ghyll scrambling, walks in the hills etc. Some of these take place on site and some in the countryside elsewhere. We will help develop the children’s sense of independence and confidence and social skills too. For the year 6 Trip we hope to build on previous experiences gained on their first trip, if they are coming again, with canoeing on one of the bigger Lakes, caving and more challenging walks. We especially hope that any children who didn’t get to come in Year 4 will take up the opportunity. Any children who applied in Year 4 but weren’t successful will be given priority.

If you are unsure and wish to know more, I will be holding a meeting for parents on Monday 30th April 2018  at 5.20pm this will be held in KS2 Downstairs Hall. I will share more about what High Borrans is like and the sort of activities we do, you can ask any questions you may have about the visit. If you are unable to attend this meeting, I am available before and after school most days.

The overall cost of the weekend will be approximately £200. This cost covers all transport for the weekend, food, accommodation, instructors, equipment etc. if your child gets a place, you would then be given the opportunity to pay in installments if you so choose.

If you would like your child to be given the opportunity to attend this course please complete the online permission form by Thursday 10th May 2018.

In the event of over-subscription course members will be drawn in accordance with the High Borrans protocol for selection.

If your child is successful in their application for this course, you will be notified.

Yours faithfully,

Alan Henderson

Year 3 to 6 children are being encouraged to take part in a new initiative called ‘The Daily Mile’. The launch day is Thursday 19th April 2018.

We will be walking, jogging or running around the school field at lunchtime and will be continuing with this for the rest of the summer term.  Reception to Year 2 children will be joining in next half term.

The initiative develops fitness levels and is excellent for the children’s health and well being. We will post some photos on Facebook and hope the sun is going to shine.
